The Institute of Geophysics in the Faculty of Physics at the University of Münster, Germany, is seeking to fill the position of a
commencing on 1. October 2026. We are offering a fixed-term part-time position (65%) for 3 years.
- This position is tied to working towards a doctorate in global seismology, using seismic waves to understand mantle structure and processes. The work includes signal processing and array analysis, numerical modelling, and interpretation in the context of dynamics and mineralogy of the Earth's mantle
- collaboration in research in the seismology working group as well as the institute of geophysics
- help with undergraduate teaching
- A graduate degree (i.e. a master’s degree) in Geophysics or in Physics/Geosciences with focus on Geophysics is required.
- Very good command of written and spoken English is advantageous and desirable.
- German language skills would be advantageous but are not a requirement.
- Substantiated knowledge of seismic methods, signal processing and deep Earth structures/processes is desirable.
- Knowledge of array methods are welcome.
- Soft skills (z.B. team-oriented, good communication skills, organisational skills, can work independently, …) is desirable
