Shopware is a leading open commerce platform for ambitious companies in digital commerce. With an API-first approach, maximum flexibility, and a strong community, we create future-oriented commerce experiences that empower merchants, developers, partners, and shoppers around the world.
At Shopware, design goes far beyond creating intuitive interfaces. Great design creates clarity in complex systems, connects business goals with user needs, and shapes experiences that people genuinely enjoy using. Our design principles and our open-source design system Meteor (shopware.design / meteor.shopware.com) are the foundation of how we work.
About the role
We're looking for a Senior Product & Experience Designer (m/f/d) who enjoys solving complex problems across disciplines and helps shape how design contributes to Shopware as a whole.
You'll work embedded in a cross-functional product team, initially focusing on CMS and Checkout, and you'll be part of our wider design team, reporting to the Head of UX. Your scope reaches beyond individual product areas: depending on strategic priorities, you may contribute to product experiences, our design system, our website, or brand-related projects. This variety is intentional — we're looking for someone who enjoys moving between different design challenges and creating consistency across them.
Beyond designing great experiences yourself, you'll help raise the quality of design at Shopware through mentoring, facilitating collaboration, and driving design excellence across teams.
If you enjoy balancing strategy and execution, collaborating with diverse disciplines, and making complex products feel simple, we'd love to meet you.
AI at Shopware Design
AI doesn't replace designers at Shopware, it's a tool deeply integrated into our daily workflows. It speeds up concept work and prototyping, takes on repetitive tasks and frees us to focus on the creative ones. AI enables every designer to build things they previously might only have dreamt of. That's Shopware. Where visionaries build, and builders dream.
We encourage AI usage that pushes past what has been the norm for years. Our design system is agent-ready. We believe designing with agents will redefine how humans and software interact and we want you to help lead the way.
This position can be filled on-site, hybrid, or full-remote within Germany or specific European countries where we are registered. Your work location will be agreed upon in advance and forms the basis of your employment contract.
These are your tasks:
Shape product and experience strategy: You design experiences across multiple product domains - initially CMS and Checkout - and stay flexible to support strategic initiatives wherever your expertise creates the greatest impact, from product initiatives to selected brand-related projects.
Solve complex design challenges: You transform complex business, technical, and user requirements into intuitive experiences that create value for merchants, developers, partners, and shoppers alike.
Create consistency across experiences: You strengthen the overall user experience by contributing to Meteor, our open-source design system, evolving interaction patterns, and ensuring consistency across products, platforms, and touchpoints.
Validate ideas through evidence: You facilitate workshops, prototype concepts, validate solutions with users, and iterate based on research, qualitative insights, experiments, and product data.
Enable collaboration: You work closely with Product Management, Engineering, UX Research, Marketing, and Leadership to align priorities, facilitate discussions, and build shared understanding across disciplines.
Mentor and elevate design: You support other designers through mentoring, thoughtful feedback, and design critiques, helping individuals and the design organization grow.
Champion design excellence: You advocate for high-quality user experiences across Shopware, help evolve our design principles, challenge assumptions constructively, and continuously raise the quality bar.
This is what you’ll bring to the table:
You have extensive experience designing complex digital products and know how to balance user needs, business goals, technical constraints, and brand consistency.
Rather than specializing in one domain, you enjoy a broad range of design challenges - from product experiences and design systems to platform capabilities and selected brand initiatives.
Systems thinking comes naturally to you. Whether you're designing a new workflow, evolving a design system, or improving a customer journey, you consider the bigger picture and the long-term impact of your decisions.
You facilitate workshops, align stakeholders, and navigate ambiguity with confidence, creating clarity where others see complexity.
Your influence extends beyond your own work: through mentoring and thoughtful feedback, you help other designers grow and continuously raise the quality of design across the organization.
You collaborate effectively with Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers, Marketing, and Leadership, adapting your communication to different audiences and building alignment without formal authority.
Design systems, prototyping, user research, experimentation, and usability testing are all part of your toolkit, and you know when each method creates the greatest value.
Working with AI is a natural part of your design process. You actively explore how AI-assisted workflows improve research, ideation, prototyping, and documentation, and you want to help shape how AI becomes part of modern product design.
Excellent English communication enables you to collaborate across teams and time zones. German is a plus, not a requirement.
This is what we offer you:
Company Culture: Open culture with flat hierarchies, where individual initiative is encouraged.
Employment Contracts: Permanent positions that offer long-term security.
Flexibility: Flexible working hours and options for mobile work and full-remote contracts.
Equipment: Freedom to choose your preferred work hardware.
Onboarding: Well-structured onboarding with support from a personal "buddy."
Work Environment: An inspiring environment with dedicated colleagues and a dynamic community.
Development Opportunities: Diverse opportunities for personal growth and development.
Additional Benefits: Attractive perks such as company pension plans, health programs, and regular team events.
... and much more!
