We are currently recruiting for a Staff Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Engineering team. This role comes with the responsibility to design innovative, state of the art, cost and energy efficient design solutions for the different systems mentioned in the responsibilities below.
You will be working in our state-of-the-art Gigafactory where you’ll solve the world's most interesting problems with the best and brightest people who share a passion to change the world, while benefiting from different perks of working with Tesla.
What You'll Do-
Collaborate with the mechanical design team on-site in Grünheide (Mark) to develop mechanical systems, solve technical problems, and produce innovative detailed designs.

Deliver LPH2 to LPH5 designs, coordinating across disciplines while ensuring compliance with local norms and Tesla standards.

Explore efficient utility solutions for state-of-the-art manufacturing equipment.

Coordinate with engineers and delegate tasks to junior team members and modelers for HVAC and plumbing trades.

Provide technical guidance and recommendations to junior engineers in specialized areas.

Review designs from external consultants and modelers for accuracy and feasibility.

Conduct technical discussions with suppliers and support procurement negotiations to secure optimal prices and lead times.

Schedule deliverables to align with new project production timelines.

Examine shop drawings and contractor submittals for compliance.

Generate construction drawings in Revit and AutoCAD, adhering to VDI 6026 LPH 5 standards.

Prepare basis of designs, hydraulic/static/thermal load calculations, schematics, BOQs, equipment schedules, and sequence of operations.

Liaise with design management, procurement, construction, quality control, commissioning, facility management, EHS, permitting, project controls, and interdisciplinary functions.

Assess manufacturing requirements and recommend enhancements for reliable equipment operation.

Take ownership of designs within your scope, ensuring constructability, functionality, and maintainability for downstream implementation.

Spot innovation opportunities for operational improvements and OPEX reductions; develop business cases with ROI analysis, data-backed cost estimates, and adherence to local/international codes.
What You'll Bring-
Master's degree in engineering or equivalent German Diplom Ingenieur.

Proven experience in general/lab ventilation, dust collection, VOC abatement, smoke exhaust, dry air, clean rooms, pressurization, process heating/chilled/condenser water, domestic potable/hot/industrial water, sewage/condensate, vacuum drainage, and rainwater networks, with emphasis on systems outlined in responsibilities.

Proficiency in Autodesk products and familiarity with the ACC ecosystem.

At least 15 years in designing the aforementioned trades, including medium to large-scale industrial projects.

Fluency in English; proficiency in German is advantageous.

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate in flexible, agile team environments.

Capacity to thrive in fast-paced settings, manage multiple scopes, and coordinate tasks across teams to expedite projects.

Advanced knowledge of engineering design principles, guidelines, and standards in the discipline, including German regulations such as DIN, VDI, and AWSV.

Expertise in thermal calculation software like HAP or equivalents, hydraulic calculations using Pipeflo or similar tools, advanced proficiency in Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD, as well as MS Office and project management platforms like Azure or Aconex.

Knowledge of CFD analysis, pipe stress analysis, and related mechanical engineering tools is a plus.
