Protecting what matters most
At Britax Römer, we've been protecting children on the road since 1966. Our mission is to provide safe, comfortable, sustainable, and easy-to-use child mobility solutions. From our very first child car seat to today's innovative range, we've helped protect millions of children around the world on their journeys.
With over 50 years of industry leadership, we're proud to empower parents through our expertise – giving them the confidence and peace of mind to enjoy smooth, safe family travel every day. Our products deliver premium safety, comfort, and quality at every stage of childhood, from newborn to 12 years.
Our European headquarters in Leipheim is home to a dedicated team working together to drive innovation and uphold the highest standards of safety and quality. We are also happy to consider applications for opportunities across other European locations.
Driven by our values – Care, Trust, and Curious – we continuously strive to improve and make a positive impact, not only by protecting children but also the world they grow up in.
Now, we're looking for an experienced Product Development Design Engineer (CAD) (m/f/d) to join our Product Development team.
At Britax, keeping children safe is not just what we do — it's why we exist.
As a Product Development Design Engineer (CAD), you'll play a central role in bringing that mission to life by contributing to our New Product Development (NPD) and Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) programmes. This is a role with genuine breadth and ownership, where you'll help shape the next generation of child safety products—from the first design concept through to production.
Working closely with colleagues across Europe and our manufacturing partners in Asia, you'll co-develop innovative child restraint systems, lead engineering change management, and act as the custodian of our Product Data Management (PDM) system and EMEA product data. You'll work at the intersection of creativity and engineering rigour, turning design concepts into products that are safe, manufacturable, regulation-compliant and built to last.
If you're a skilled 3D CAD designer who takes pride in precision, thrives in a cross-functional environment, and wants your work to have a real impact on the safety of children worldwide, we'd love to hear from you.
What you'll do
In this role, you'll contribute to every stage of the product development process while working closely with cross-functional teams and international manufacturing partners.
Your responsibilities will include:
Product Development
- Leading the engineering and development of new child safety products throughout the full New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle.
- Co-develop innovative CAD solutions with our manufacturing partners in Asia, reviewing designs against technical, quality and regulatory requirements.
- Define design specifications and develop solutions that balance safety, quality, manufacturability, performance, cost and timing.
- Conduct FMEA and Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities to identify risks and drive continuous product improvements.
Collaboration & Engineering Excellence
- Working closely with Industrial Design, R&D, Quality, Sourcing and other cross-functional teams to successfully deliver innovative products.
- Ensure all engineering solutions comply with internal standards and international safety and regulatory requirements.
Product Data & Change Management
- Own and maintain our Product Data Management (PDM) system, ensuring accurate CAD data across the EMEA child seat portfolio.
- Create and maintain CAD models, assemblies, technical drawings and engineering release documentation.
- Lead the engineering change management process, ensuring accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs), product specifications, version control and stakeholder communication throughout the product lifecycle.
- Support the global harmonisation of product data and act as a trusted partner for Quality, Sourcing and Customer Service.
What you'll bring
We're looking for someone who's passionate about product design, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and thrives in an international, collaborative environment.
What helps you succeed in this role:
- 4 – 5+ years of experience in Product Design Engineering within consumer products, automotive or a similar manufacturing environment.
- Strong hands-on experience using SolidWorks for 3D CAD design.
- Experience working with PDM systems such as SolidWorks PDM or Windchill.
- A solid understanding of injection-moulded plastics, metal part design, tooling and Design for Manufacturing (DfM).
- Experience collaborating with international manufacturing partners, ideally across Asia.
- A degree in Product Design, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline. CAD certification is a plus.
- Fluency in English and German; Mandarin would be a plus.
- Strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset when working across teams, cultures and time zones.
You don't tick every single box? That's okay — we'd still love to hear from you. :)
What you can expect
- The opportunity to shape innovative child safety products that protect millions of families worldwide.
- Ownership of exciting engineering projects across the full product development lifecycle—from concept to production.
- International collaboration with colleagues across Europe and manufacturing partners in Asia.
- A role where your expertise directly influences product quality, safety and innovation.
- A hybrid working model with flexibility.
- A collaborative culture built on our values: Care, Trust and Curious.
- A team that values knowledge sharing, continuous improvement and supports your professional growth.
Most importantly: your work will help create products that protect children and give families confidence on every journey.
