Focus: Satellite GNC/AOCS and Control Engineering
Astos Solutions GmbH develops engineering software and provides specialized services for the international space industry. Our simulation, optimization and analysis solutions are used worldwide by space agencies, industrial companies and research organizations.
ASTOS® is a world-leading software solution for launch vehicle design, trajectory optimization and performance analysis. In addition, we develop specialized simulation, testing and check-out solutions for satellite GNC/AOCS systems.
To strengthen our GNC/AOCS team, we are looking for an engineer with a sound background in control engineering and a hands-on approach to the development, implementation and verification of satellite control algorithms.
You will contribute to a range of national and international space missions, from conventional satellite attitude and orbit control to rendezvous and proximity operations.
Please Note: This position may involve access to export-controlled technical information and may, in the future, require a German personnel security clearance (Sicherheitsüberprüfung, SÜG); eligibility can depend on nationality and residence history.
- Develop and implement GNC/AOCS algorithms for satellite missions, including attitude and orbit control as well as rendezvous and proximity operations
- Model and analyse satellite dynamics, actuators, sensors and control systems
- Design GNC/AOCS concepts, operational modes and fault detection, isolation and recovery strategies
- Verify and validate algorithms using model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop and real-time test environments
- Support qualification-level testing and the preparation of flight-ready software components
- Generate embedded software using auto-coding tools and perform subsequent review and manual refinement where required
- Contribute to technical studies, customer projects and internal product development
- Prepare and review technical documentation
- Participate in technical discussions, reviews and project meetings with customers and partners
Essential Qualifications
- A university degree in aerospace engineering, control engineering, cybernetics or a comparable field
- Strong knowledge of control engineering, including classical control methods
- Experience in mathematical modelling and analysis of dynamic systems
- A sound understanding of satellite dynamics and GNC/AOCS systems
- Good knowledge of MATLAB and Simulink
- Good written and spoken English; German language skills are an advantage
- A structured, analytical and hands-on approach to engineering work
- Eligibility to work with export-controlled technical information and, if required in the future, to undergo a German personnel security clearance (Sicherheitsüberprüfung, SÜG), which can depend on nationality and residence history
Desirable Qualifications – experience in one or more of the following areas would be an advantage:
- Robust, optimal or model-based control methods
- Orbital mechanics and relative orbital dynamics
- Rendezvous and proximity operations
- GNC/AOCS architecture and FDIR design
- Embedded or flight software development
- Auto-coding using Simulink Coder, Embedded Coder or dSPACE TargetLink
- Model-in-the-loop, software-in-the-loop, processor-in-the-loop or hardware-in-the-loop testing
- Space engineering standards and flight-software qualification processes
- Technically challenging work on national and international satellite missions
- Responsibility across the complete GNC/AOCS development and verification lifecycle
- A combination of engineering services, software development and real-time testing
- Direct collaboration with customers, space agencies and industrial partners
- A technically focused team with short decision-making paths
