The Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology ITMP in Berlin-Mitte focuses on the development of new and personalized treatment strategies for patients with rheumatic diseases. This new Fraunhofer site is being established in close collaboration with Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin.
Be part of change
You will work at the interface of bioinformatics, translational medicine, and experimental research. Our clinical and research teams conduct a broad range of innovative studies, including Investigator-Initiated Trials (IITs), with the goal of developing novel therapeutic approaches for rheumatic diseases. These include, among others, the use of CAR T-cell therapies and therapeutic antibodies to reprogram the immune system.
In addition, we perform large-scale multi-omics analyses of patient cohorts to gain deeper insight into disease pathology. We also employ a range of disease models to investigate specific cellular and molecular mechanisms in detail.
In this role, you will support the analysis of ongoing experimental datasets while advancing innovative approaches for the integration and interpretation of complex, multidimensional data.
Your responsibilities will include in particular:
- Performing computational analyses of high-throughput sequencing datasets, including:
- single-cell RNA-seq and ATAC-seq
- spatial transcriptomics / spatial multi-omics
- bulk RNA-seq and ATAC-seq
- CUT&RUN
- Developing, implementing, and optimizing bioinformatics pipelines for data processing and analysis
- Integrating multi-omics datasets with clinical and patient-related data
- Contributing to the development of novel computational approaches for combining large-scale datasets
- Collaborating closely with laboratory scientists, clinicians, and fellow bioinformaticians
- Interpreting and presenting results to multidisciplinary teams
- Ensuring reproducibility, proper documentation, and sound data management practices
What you contribute
- A completed PhD in biology, bioinformatics, biomedicine, or a related life science discipline
- Strong hands-on experience in bioinformatics
- Excellent programming skills in R and Python
- Proven experience in the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
- Practical experience in several of the following areas:
- single-cell transcriptomics
- epigenomics, e.g. ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, ChIP-seq
- spatial transcriptomics or multi-omics
- Experience handling large-scale datasets and working in high-performance computing environments
- Solid knowledge of statistical methods for the analysis of high-dimensional data
- Experience with integrative analysis across multiple data modalities
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
- Fluency in German and English
