We are building the first AI-native platform for automated product compliance in MedTech. REMATIQ turn hundreds of page of complex regulations (like MDR and FDA guidance) into structured, actionable requirements that plug directly into our customers’ development and quality processes. The result: life‑saving medical devices reach patients faster and safer.
As a Principal Software Engineer, Platform, you’ll build the services, workflows, and developer-facing APIs behind our AI requirements engine, document processing pipelines, and compliance workflows used by leading MedTech companies.
You’ll work closely with product, domain experts, and data teams to turn complex regulatory requirements into reliable, intuitive product experiences. Because we operate in a highly regulated industry, correctness, traceability, and reliability are central to how we build.
We believe in the value of in-person collaboration and work in a hybrid setup, with the team coming together in our office in the heart of Berlin-Mitte typically four days per week.
We are not looking for someone to just complete tickets. We want a partner in decision‑making (product and tech) who takes ownership, challenges assumptions, and drives initiatives.
In this role, you will combine deep technical ownership with hands‑on contribution:
Shape the technical roadmap – Partner with product and founders to define, refine, and prioritize our technical roadmap.
Drive architecture & design – Lead architectural decisions for our backend and services, ensuring they are secure, extensible, and compliant.
Build and ship features end‑to‑end – Design, develop, and deploy scalable web applications and APIs (backend‑heavy, with the ability to contribute to React frontends where needed).
Tackle complex engineering problems – Lead the way on difficult technical decisions while continuously improving our practices, processes, and quality/security standards. Unblock others on their challenges as well by helping debug tricky issues, reviewing designs, and sharing context so the team can move faster.
Collaborate across disciplines – Work closely with machine learning, product, and design to discover and ship solutions that truly solve customer problems.
We work in a modern TypeScript‑first monorepo:
Core: Node.js 20+, TypeScript 5+, pnpm workspaces, Turborepo.
Frontend: React (Vite), Tailwind CSS, and design system.
Backend & workflows: Express-based services, with DBOS for durable workflows.
Data & storage: PostgreSQL with pgvector, Prisma ORM, Azure Blob Storage.
AI & observability: Azure OpenAI, Langfuse, Sentry, plus logging/tracing with tools like Winston and OpenTelemetry.
Dev experience: AI‑assisted workflows with Cursor and Claude Code, integrated into our TypeScript‑first monorepo and review process.
You’ve solved complex problems in production – e.g. scaling bottlenecks, reliability issues, tricky data/architecture trade-offs.
Strong TypeScript + Node.js backend experience in larger codebases, with a focus on building and operating production services.
Solid database fundamentals – PostgreSQL (ideally) including data modelling, migrations, and performance.
Experience with distributed patterns – event-driven communication, workflows, or loosely coupled services is a strong plus.
Cloud + containers – hands-on with Docker and/or Kubernetes and at least one major cloud provider (Azure is a plus).
Backend-heavy full-stack comfort – you can contribute to React when needed, but your depth is on platform/backend.
High quality bar, pragmatic mindset – you ship maintainable, well-tested systems in compliance-heavy environments and use AI tools (Cursor/Claude Code) as leverage without compromising reliability.
Impact in a high-stakes domain – Work on compliance workflows in one of the most regulated industries, where correctness and traceability matter and the outcomes are real.
Bring GenAI into production – Build the systems that make LLM-driven features predictable, auditable, and reliable in safety-critical MedTech environments.
Real ownership – Own major parts of our platform and drive architectural decisions across backend services, workflows, and data.
AI‑agent‑first development – Build in an environment where tools like Cursor and Claude Code are first‑class citizens, helping you explore designs, refactor, and ship faster while you stay in control of quality and reliability.
Strong peers – Work with people who care deeply about craft and outcomes, in a high-ownership culture that includes teammates with founder experience.
Work with leading MedTech companies – Build products used by teams at BBraun, Novartis & Bayer.
