What to Expect
Tesla is seeking highly motivated engineering students who thrive in a fast-paced environment and want to apply electrical concepts to real world projects. Our team drives collaboration with many engineering groups - team players only. Tesla moves quickly, so being self-motivated and disciplined is critical. You must be passionate, but direction changes quickly, so you must also be resilient. As an intern you will work directly with full-time engineers to design, prototype, test and launch new parts and processes to improve our batteries. Our projects include advanced cooling systems, cell interfaces and high voltage distribution. Every day we push the boundaries of what is possible for energy storage in our vehicles, demanding extreme attention to details and the highest standard of performance, quality and manufacturability.
What You'll Do

Design new battery electrical components that improve product metrics (performance, cost, mass)

Own basic testing and analysis; support advanced testing and analysis

Build and develop various test setups, jigs and testers to validate battery components

Debug errors and failures; root cause test failures and process/manufacturing issues

Drive cost down and reliability improvement projects from proposal through implementation

Coordinate cross-functional work with suppliers, Supplier Industrialization, Quality, Service and other teams inside Tesla (manufacturing, testing, NPI, supply chain, etc.), including organizing meetings etc

Create sources of truth to reference important findings

Support the design of new battery electrical components, including schematics and layouts, that improve product metrics (performance, cost, mass)
What You'll Bring-
Currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals, such as circuit design, power electronics, electrical measurement, material properties and basic mechanics

Demonstrated hands-on abilities (e.g. lab and bench skills, building jigs and testers, technical hobbies/academic projects, etc.) - Experience with student Formula Student etc. is a plus

Proactive and self-driven, with the ability to coordinate cross-functional work across various teams and functions teams

Experience debugging errors and failures, and supporting cost down and reliability improvements

Detail-oriented personality with top-tier documentation and reporting skills

Proficiency in CAD and schematic tools; CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX experience is a plus,
- Fluency in English, German is a plus
