What we’re looking for
Technical Support Office (TSO) provides a worldwide plan approval service to shipbuilders, ship owners, and manufacturers. The purpose of this role is to appraise marine electrical and control design aspects in accordance with applicable international standards and Lloyd's Register Class Rules. Using technical skills, established procedures, and industry knowledge, you will carry out design appraisal activities for newbuild, conversion, and existing vessel projects, while providing technical support to ship designers, owners, operators, and other marine stakeholders. The selected candidate may be based in our Hamburg office or in a Lloyd’s Register office within the Nordic-Scandinavia region.

The role
- Carry out design appraisal and consultancy activities against a range of Lloyd's Register Class Rules and statutory regulations.
- Review and approve marine electrical, automation, control, and electronic systems for new construction and existing merchant vessels, with opportunities to support offshore and other marine projects.
- Conduct approval of electrical and control equipment and components against applicable statutory requirements and Class Rules.
- Perform Type Approval assessments for electrical and control equipment.
- Build and maintain close relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Provide specialist technical advice to ship designers, shipyards, owners, operators, surveyors, and other technical specialists worldwide.
- Contribute to Rule Development Projects and technical proposals to ensure LR Rules remain aligned with industry developments and emerging technologies.
- Support business development activities by contributing to bid and proposal preparation, including scope definition and effort estimation.
- Deliver high-quality technical outputs within agreed timeframes and review the work of colleagues when required.
- Consistently support client satisfaction and identify opportunities for additional services.
- Conduct activities in accordance with internal procedures, accreditation requirements, applicable legislation, and industry standards.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned by the Global Electrical & Control Discipline Manager or line manager.
What you bring
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, Marine Engineering, or an equivalent discipline from an accredited tertiary institution.
- Relevant experience in electrical and control system design and the application of Classification Society Rules to ship design and construction.
- Experience with marine electrical systems, automation, control systems, power distribution, and related technologies is highly desirable.
- Experience applying Class Rules to offshore assets or large naval auxiliary vessels.
- Candidates earlier in their career may be considered for an entry-level position.
- Membership of an appropriate professional institution.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status, or demonstrable progress toward obtaining professional registration.
- Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision and collaboratively within a global team environment.
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and perform effectively when the workload is heavy.
- Effective written and verbal English communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports and design appraisal documentation.
- Understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Classification Society and the relationship between Class Rules and statutory regulations would be beneficial.
