OPTERRA, part of the global CRH Group, is one of Germany’s leading cement manufacturers. Our Wössingen plant near Karlsruhe, Germany is among the most modern cement facilities in Central Europe, producing high-quality products for some of the most demanding construction applications.
We are now looking for an experienced, influential and forward-thinking Health & Safety Manager to lead and shape the next chapter of our safety journey.
Reporting directly to the Plant Leadership Team, you will play a critical role in strengthening our safety culture, ensuring compliance with legal and corporate standards, and driving continuous improvement across all aspects of Health & Safety. The Role
In this role, you will:

Lead the development, implementation and continuous improvement of the site's Health & Safety strategy, fostering a proactive and sustainable safety culture

Act as the key advisor and subject matter expert on all occupational health, safety and risk management matters

Ensure compliance with all relevant legal requirements, corporate standards and industry best practices

Identify risks, drive preventive measures and implement initiatives that continuously improve safety performance
-
Lead investigations into incidents and near misses, conduct root cause analyses and ensure effective corrective actions are embedded

Manage internal and external HSE reporting, providing meaningful insights, analysis and recommendations to stakeholders

Serve as Radiation Protection Officer and HSE Management Representative, supporting the ongoing development of management systems

Coordinate and support internal and external audits and ensure successful implementation of resulting actions

Develop, review and communicate HSE procedures, standards and work instructions

Deliver engaging training programmes and awareness initiatives that strengthen ownership and accountability for safety across the workforce

Partner closely with operational leaders and employees to build a culture where safety is a shared responsibility

Act as a catalyst for change, inspiring people to challenge existing practices and continuously raise safety standards
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a passionate Health & Safety leader who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to inspire, influence and engage people at all levels of the organisation.
You will bring:

A degree in Engineering, Safety Management, Natural Sciences or a comparable technical qualification
-
Certification as an Occupational Safety Specialist (SIFA)
-
Several years of experience in a Health & Safety or a similar role, ideally within heavy industry, manufacturing or building materials
-
Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation, regulations and management systems, including ISO 45001
-
Experience driving cultural change and embedding behavioural safety programmes
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, combined with a pragmatic and hands-on approach
-
The ability to build credibility and influence senior leaders, operational teams and external stakeholders
-
Excellent communication and training skills
-
A proactive, resilient and solutions-oriented mindset
-
The ability to motivate, engage and empower employees to take ownership of safety
-
Fluent German and good English language skills is a must
