What to Expect
The Regulatory Scientist will focus on REACH and GHS-SDS compliance across Tesla’s global manufacturing and R&D sites, with a primary emphasis on European regulatory requirements. You will collaborate with internal and external toxicologists as well as Legal, Supply Industrialization, Supply Management, Production Engineering, and EHS to manage REACH compliance. Core duties include generating and submitting chemical data to ECHA (physicochemical and toxicological), and managing health and regulatory risks together with site industrial hygienists, engineers, and production teams through engineering, administrative, or PPE controls. Occasional site visits to inspect, catalog, or collect industrial hygiene or environmental data are required.
Beyond TSCA-related work, you will also own SDS creation and updates for Tesla’s global (non-US) manufactured materials and products. This requires working with internal bills of materials and supplier databases, applying relevant GHS classifications and underlying safety/toxicity data, and staying current on national and international SDS regulations.
What You'll Do-
Generate and maintain SDSs for Tesla products and materials across EMEA manufacturing and R&D sites, ensuring GHS and REACH documentation is complete and accurate.

Lead REACH registration preparation, submission, and lifecycle management (lead and joint registrant roles) in line with EU and ECHA requirements, including toxicological data generation via third-party testing where needed.

Partner with GSM to assess and audit suppliers for REACH compliance, collect registration and tonnage documentation, and support non-compliant suppliers through onboarding.

Drive chemical compliance and risk management with R&D, production, procurement, and EHS, and lead internal and international regulatory projects.

Oversee the introduction and use of chemicals in coordination with medical experts, EHS, and line management, including collection of field or facility data with local EHS or production support.

Monitor EU and global chemical regulations (e.g. SVHC, K-REACH, AICIS, CSCL) and serve as the primary contact for authorities and internal stakeholders.

Define and implement compliance standards, guidelines, and tools to strengthen chemical management across sites.

Degree in Chemistry, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Toxicology, or equivalent professional background.

Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Proven ability to navigate, review, and submit data in ECHA and public chemical databases (e.g. ECHA, PubChem, GESTIS).

Strong capability in evaluating chemical structures, assessing health risks, and designing toxicity testing programs.

Comfort reviewing engineering and process designs and advising on risk mitigation and regulatory compliance.

Hands-on background managing company chemical and material databases.

At least 3 years in an EHS or material regulatory role; REACH experience preferred.

PE, DABT, CIH, or CSP certification preferred.
