A challenging place to work for graduates - perfect start into working world!
Working at BMW was tough many times which helped me gain valuable work experience in an international company.
Nonetheless I enjoyed working here very much as I finally could apply my knowledge gained at university and proof myself. Working in a fast-paced work environment, I moreover could make use of my organisational and time management skills and further develop them.
What I especially loved about this job was the perfect mixture of individual and team work. Since I got along fine with all of my colleagues, I was always looking forward to go to work.
The hardest part of the job was probably working under time pressure several times when there were meetings ahead, presentations to finish, etc. - that required not just good organisational skills but also a lot of self-discipline.
The most enjoyable days for me were those when I met people from different countries and cultures and got the chance to talk to and work with them. Fortunately, I had international conversations every day and could participate in video conferences which made the internship really diversified. A typical day at work moreover included research tasks, working on presentations, delaing with market requests and scheduling meetings for my co-workers.
Vorteilegood salary (internship!), benefits (possibility to cheaply rent cars, free entrance to BMW world and museum), discounted lunch
Vorteilegute Entlohnung, gute Organisation
NachteileArbeitszeitmodelle wie six by for, Zeitarbeit
In the department I worked for, a typical day would be to take a car out on the test track and push it to the limits. We tuned the suspension of small/mid-sized vehicles and tested many prototypes that have yet to be released to the public.
I learned a lot of the inner workings of a consumer firm and how the market sets deadlines. It was a cross-cultural experience as well, so I found it valuable to see how other cultures approach work and problem solving.
Management was friendly and supportive, but also kept strict guidelines. We often found ourselves extremely limited in making a quality product because the Business side wanted to make it cheaper. The hardest part of the job was finding balance between making a vehicle more affordable, and yet offer the best sporty handling one would expect from a company like this. Handling capabilities of a vehicle is such a subjective theme based on experience, it's hard to find a common ground.
The most enjoyable part of the job, is driving around a test track in a car no one has ever driven before.

Schlechtes Betriebsklima

BMW Gorup system apllication administration and problem solving
My degree course involved me in a great deal of independent research, requiring initiative, self-motivation and a wide range of skills. To refine my preparation I followed Oracle tuning and administration courses .
I found this subject very stimulating and very useful for my last experience in BMW Group;
typical day at work : complex installations , reverse engineering for problem solving and analisys , application server configuration , oracle DB adimistration.
Hardest part of the job was installation on production:no errors admitted and analisys of problems in short period of time .
I 've learned how to deal with extremely hard problem in the less time as possible.
Most enjoyable part was system analysing to identify and solve problems on unix/linux distribuited platform

Dumpinglohnbetrieb.

Overall, I enjoyed my oppurtunity at Infinity Cars to understand complex machines like BMW, from a technical standpoint,I could gain hands on experience working on them which made many of our concepts learnt in our academia clear.
As a trainee, a typical training in the initial stage began with vehicles coming in, and me getting to work along with other technicians and understand how arious electrical/mechanical work is carreid out.Work spanned from diagnosis/replacement of sensors to rebuilding an entire engine. As a trainee my job was to assiste senior technicians to perform such tasks and keep in touch with supervisors to manage progress of the work withing stipulated time.
As a technical advisor, I was gained experience to speak to customers specially in lucidifying technical issues in their cars and therby getting approvals (considering that Indians are very cost concious, even mundane jobs can become a hard task to convince because of the costs involved)and getting the jobs done. This improved my ability to easily converse with people (especially HNI' - High Net Worth Individuals), and cordinate work withing the team effectively.
Also as being a qualified engineer myself, i was able to teach the teamcertain aspects of cars with regards to various problems that we tackled everyday,, which made my fellow advisors life ewasy and saved precious time. The underlining aspect was proper co-ordination witin the group right from the segregation and allotment of specific cars wit

The first several years at BMW were great for everyone, then they started taking benefits.
The moral and atmosphere was great for the first 5-7 years, then they started taking benefits and blaming the mother Germany management for these changes. Only for us to find out years later that all these changes and benefits being taken from us were due to American Management wanting to increase their personal bonuses.
Example:
1. Health Care was paid for by the company for the first 8-10 years.
When I left in 2018 my family coverage was about $400 a month
The best health plans were being forced out and the flexible spending accounts were being pushed heavily.
2. Any hours worked past 10 hours were overtime. This was
changed to anything past 40 hours was overtime.
3. When we were forced to go to 12 hour shifts we were paid for our
40 minute lunch, this also was taken from us in about 2008
4. Annual Percentage Raises were done away with in about 2008, and we went to a system to where we were paid out a 2 or 3% (40hour average) one time payout a year instead of a true raise.
Only to find out management kept getting their annual % raise every year. We did get a true % raise roughly every 3rd or 4th year.
In the early 2000's BMW was a top paying company in the area, since then companies like GE, Michelin, Tower Automotive, Magna Drive and others have since passed the top pay spot by as much as $10-15 dollars an hour.

my typical day at work was going into work being greeted by everyone that i worked with. usually when i got to work i would go into the drivers room to see where i would be driving for the day and then checking out the key to the vehicle i would be driving. i learned so much there. i made alot of great friends and i probably learned something new everyday. there was always something to learn about the new vehicles the management was very friendly and always wanted feedback on our opinions and concerns. this was probably my favorite company to work for. i always felt like my voice mattered. my coworkers were my family. everyone was real close and when someone was out sick on a medical leave , everyone would pitch in to get that person a card and make sure they were okay. id say the hardest part of my job was the long hours and the 6-7 hours on the road with every possible obstacle that would come up and you never new what was gonna come up. but we communicated with each other and looked out for each other and made sure we got back home safe. my favorite part of the job was knowing that our purpose was to evaluate all aspects of the cars and make sure when the car finally came out on the assembly line that the bmw owner would be happy with their purchase and us knowing they would be safe because we tested them first and let the engineers and electricians know of any issues that would come up on the new software being used,. i felt like i everyday when i went to work my opinion

BMW is a big international company with intercultural employees from Germany, UK, China, South Africa, USA etc. To work there, I have practiced and improved my language skills, communication skills as well as business skills in project working and corporation controlling, which was my major in University. Since I have been working in vehicle projects as well as factory building projects, the work has been busy but interesting. Working with people from different countries and speaking/improving German and English everyday were extremly exciting and challenging. Watching the fantastic products everyday, has been a great comfort. Most of co-workers were professional and hardworking and most managers are experienced and have a good business knowledge. I enjoyed working there and was very grateful for the oppotunity.
However, there is always improvement possibilities. Personally, I think with the expending of the company, the management structure has become rather long vertically. Too many layers of managers might influence the executive operation of company strategies, especially in a multiculture company where most employees are speaking their second language to communicate. Oral and verbal missunderstandings as well as the cultural behavioral differences are the biggest barrierer for a better performance and can be avoided greatly through directer and clearer communication. Another improvement potential would be the meeting arrangement. I found too many meetings were arranged

Opportunity to identify assocites with leadership or technical abilities and provide a path to achieve their respective goals.
Given authority to hold other departments and disciplines accountable to support the business unit to achieve success and handed down stretch targets.
The average number of meetings per day (6) often created additional challenges when running the daily business and although senior management implicated plans to decrease the meeting load, it never happened. Also headcount targets placed additional stress on hourly associates who were often turned down for legitimate request for pto which negatively impacted morale.
Open positions were often filled by transferring German associates when qualified and capable associates for those positions were already available. This also dampened morale.
A continuous cycle of suppliers inability to meet plant expectations caused additional stress to build vehicles as sequenced and on time which unfortunately adversely impacted production cost and delivery to waiting customers.
It was still very rewarding to be a part of history and also experience Germany, specifically Bavaria, which I absolutely enjoyed, the culture and mindset of my

I was never rewarded for being productive. The only time I got a raise was when a fellow employee got up and walked out after neglecting to do her task. She should've never been the only one cleaning this building to begin with. It is far to large. I was told after taking this position. I would be evaluated and given another raise after 6 months. It never happened. I was lied to over and over again by management. I fell like I was prayed upon and discriminated against. I worked extremely hard for this company. Walking up to 6 miles a day. This was 6 days a week. I Google mapped my walking around this building. How accurate that is? I wouldn't know. I had to put 2 soles in my shoes to keep my legs and feet from hurting. My legs would hurt so bad at times. I honestly felt like giving up. I have seen at least 20 different employees come and go at this company. Most were people I had to work hand and foot with and all of them gave me a lot of bs. Don't get me wrong. I enjoy working hard but I also like enjoying the fruits of my labor. I feel they were insufficient. Someone working like I did deserves a lot more. Not just money but respect. I had some good experience at this company as well but for the most part. I couldn't wait to go home. I attempt to see the positive in everything but these are my feelings. This is the truth. This is how I feel about working at this company. People don't want to here a lie. They want you to tell the truth. I wouldn't recommend working for this

Used to be a great work environment under the proper management. I enjoyed working there because of the great team moral, proper training, appreciation for employees and management, bonus programs, team building events, experience in learning new and different tasks and processes, and opportunities for growth with quick advancements from internal promotions.
Along with other businesses, the pandemic caused the site to become understaffed. We are expected to work Monday through Friday 10 hour days, an 8 hour Saturday, and now recently a voluntary Sunday. Although the hours become tiring from physical labor, the mandated overtime is not the real problem.
The culture at this site has declined when there were changes in upper management. Lack of accountability amongst supervisors and employees, favoritism, inability to properly address employee concerns, poor communication from management to supervisors and employees, toxic work environment.
Supervisors are not treated equally, some are expected to do more because they are capable while others are doing the bare minimum by choice with upper management being aware. Employees were not being treated fairly due to management’s personal opinions. Poor attempts to conceal problems with temporary fixes, trying to maintain a fake image instead of coming to a solution for real improvement.
Currently still employed here, however I am looking for better job opportunities and hope to start with a new employer soon. Main reason being that
